LG first started out as a home appliances manufacturing company and the name was Goldstar. Later on Goldstar merged with Lucky, a renowned chemical company. The company was renamed as LG in the year 1995. LG stands for "Lucky Goldstar". Their caption is "Life's good".

Joint ventures by LG

LG made its first move towards a joint venture with Royal Philips Electronics in the year 2001. The resulting companies were "LG Philips LCD" and "LG Philips Display". Now they have again collaborated with Nortel and the company is known as LG-Nortel Co. Ltd. They are also associated with Hitachi as Hitachi-LG Data Storage, which is into manufacturing data storage devices. Acquiring the Zenith Appliances, which used to be an American Television manufacturing company, was an important step by LG.
